In The Manger
The quiet of the night was split by the sound of angels singing. They announced to the shepherds the wonderous news: As we see in Luke 2:8-20, an angel of the LORD spoke to them telling them a Savior had been born in Bethlehem; the one God promised would come to deliver them; the one they had waited so long for. The shepherds were so overjoyed they felt compelled to leave their flocks and find the babe. As they drew close who did they see there in the manger? Did they see just an infant, or did they really see, with the eyes of faith the Savior?
Their actions speak to what they saw; their actions show their belief. They saw, they believed, and they shared the good news. Luke says:
“17 And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child.
18 And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds.”
Who do you see in the manger? Who will you tell “Christ is born!”?
Thank you for joining me on these daily Advent meditations. May God bless you this Christmas and all year long. The following “Christ is Born” is set to Puccini’s Nessun Dorma and sung by Naperville’s Calvary Church Choir. It is truly beautiful.
