The Prince of Peace
Recently I was speaking with a student who was feeling overwhelmed. Taking online courses, she was also a married mom of three who worked a full-time job in retail. She was trying to manage her roles as a student, wife, mom, and employee; and feeling stressed about not doing it all “Instagram perfectly”. Sometimes our ability to manage one area of our lives ends up being overrun by chaos happening in another. The lack of order can leave us feeling exhausted and anxious. This was the case for this student.
Life is complicated. Sometimes we flat can not manage it all. Sometimes when I’m feeling overwhelmed, I just have to lean into the words of the psalmist, “I will both lie down and sleep in peace, for You alone, O Lord, make me lie down in safety.” Psalm 4:8 What a good verse to recall when you lay your head on the pillow at night!
We need regular reminders in this hectic world that we can claim Peace, despite the complications in our lives. How can we have peace when there are struggles in life? It seems counter-intuitive. It is!
God defies the logic of the world. Advent is a time when daily, we can choose to remember that God has provided an unending stream of Peace from which we can draw. It comes, not in the form of a better Day Planner or Bose Noise Cancelling headsets, but in the form of Baby.
“. . . a child has been born for us,
a son is given to us,
authority rests upon his shoulders
and he is named . . .Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6
Lean back dear ones, listen and turn up the volume.
